Friday, 2 August 1778 Stalling Down, Cowbridge

Thomas Arthur (aged 20) (of the parish of Llys-faen) on 15 June 1778 burglariously entered the dwelling house of Joan Watkin (otherwise Joan Harry) in the parish of Llanedern and stole a handkerchief (value 3/-) and a bottle of Rum (value 4/-) and assaulted Joan Watkin strangling her with his hands so that she instantly died (WALES 4/624/2).

Hanged Stalling Down on 28 August and then hanged in chains on Monydd Buchan.  (Diary of Wiliam Thomas)
